Mobility & Stretching for Surfers

Improving movement, performance, and injury prevention

Mobility and flexibility are essential for efficient paddling, smooth pop-ups, turning, and overall body control while surfing.

Why mobility matters

Limited flexibility can negatively affect performance and place additional stress on muscles and joints.

Common tight areas for surfers include:

  • shoulders

  • hips

  • hamstrings

  • lower back

Consistency matters

Stretching does not need to be complicated. Even short, regular sessions at home can improve mobility over time.

From a Surfer + Medical Perspective

From a clinical perspective, mobility helps reduce strain and lowers the risk of injury. From a surfer’s perspective, stiffness becomes noticeable quickly — whether during pop-ups, turns, or simply trying to move fluidly on the board.

If you do not want to feel limited in the water, regular mobility work is one of the best investments you can make.
